Happy Sunday! Every Sunday I listen to my Christian music playlist on youtube music. I find that music helps me connect spiritually. Some Sundays I open my bible to a random spot and start reading. Today I opened my bible to Psalm 86: 1-7. I find joy in being one of God’s children and I seek his wisdom whole-heartedly.

A prayer of David.
Psalm 86: 1-7
1 Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God;
3 have mercy on me, Lord,
for I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
for I put my trust in you.
5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
6 Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
7 When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.
This passage in the bible really spoke to me. Just as the passage states, I am poor and needy, but I put my faith and trust in God. I know I can call on God when I am in distress, and he answers me. Currently, I am in recovery from total hip joint replacement. This surgery has made me slow down and realize what’s truly important in my life. This surgery has also helped me to always remain grateful and thankful.
The very second day after surgery the hospital was trying to discharge me with no discharge placement. Unfortunately, I am homeless and I have been living in my suv. It would not have been safe to recover from this surgery in my suv. I was originally told by my surgeon that I would get at least 2 weeks to recover from surgery, either in the hospital or at a skilled nursing facility.
When discussing my options with the discharge health nurse, I was shocked to find out that my insurance would not approve my stay at the skilled nursing facility. They said I did not qualify. I panicked and decided to do some of my own research regarding recovering from a major surgery such as this. What I found was that if I didn’t qualify for skilled nursing then the next option would be for a respite room at a nursing facility, but I would still be responsible for 20% of the total cost.
The next thing I did was reach out to my home health nurse and my mental health case manager for additional guidance. As a team, we resolved the situation. We found a respite placement that is needs based and serves those who are homeless that have had a major medical procedure needing a safe place to recover and who may not have insurance or are underinsured. In my case, I am underinsured, homeless, and in need of a safe place to recover.
Thankfully, the Lotus Care House, a respite care facility, had an opening, and I was given the opportunity to move into a room here. They have an on-site physical therapist as well as nursing staff and mental health providers. I am allowed to stay for as long as they find I am in medical need.
This place is such a fantastic organization that they have already started the process of finding me a place to transfer to after my stay here. Tomorrow, I should get my call back from the Transitional housing program that the Lotus Care House referred me to last Friday. I will be able to hear more about the program, schedule a tour of the facility, and ask any questions I might have. The transitional housing program has a waiting list a few weeks long, but that’s about how long of a stay I will need. The timing should be perfect.
